Today I did it. I actually played a sport. I know! Don’t faint. It was softball….shhhh. Don’t tell anyone.
I took a challenge of a friend who plays and organizes our church co-ed softball league to come out and throw a ball or two, to try it out. You know, see if I could do it.
Well I did it.
I did it so well, I caught a line drive with my un-gloved hand and stopped it cold and swiped it into my glove. Lets just say, it stung at first. Then I threw the ball back to the pitcher. The burning sensation that followed was not unlike when you hold an ice pack too long without a towel. I shook it off and didn’t whine too much and played the rest of the time. I decided after an hour and a half that I was tired, hot, and sweaty. I sat back down and my hand was already bruising and swelling. Not a good sign.
Some ice and a pedicure later…what? I’m still girlie and if I am going to play softball, I need manicured toes. Anyway, as I was saying….it is going to be a nasty bruise, but one I think I will live through.
On a happier note. I actually hit many balls during batting practice. I know! Shutup huh?!! Really…after I got the hang of it, I was going to town hitting grounders and short drives down third base. (Debbi? Are you ok?? Need to sit down?? I know…it’s still confusing that I am talking about sports! Get used to it honey….I may need some pointers!) Not too bad for my first time, if I do say so myself. I think they may just be the kick in the bippy I need to get my health together. Now if I could just throw it far enough for everyone to catch it…….
Alright…a “Babe Angie” is born..who knew!
Grounders down the third base line??? Who are you and what have you done with my friend Angie?
