Cuz her birthday is too bootylicious for you, babe.

Being the jealous type, I can’t let my Sister have the only birthday bucket list** for this year (see left sidebar for list and progress). So in honor of my bestest friend and Sister, I am going to list 38 things I’d like to accomplish before I turn 38, which is in 117 days.

Love and buckets,

angies-sig

** This list is intended to be light hearted and playful. I am NOT making fun of my Sister and her terrific 40 before 40 list. I just didn’t have anything interesting to write about and even I don’t want to hear my own self complain anymore. Love you Sister!!

4 Days and a wake up!

Amsterdam and Italy are just around the corner. This time last year we were preparing for a trip to Missouri to dog/house sit for my Dad and Sister’s trip to Europe! Who would have thought I would be going a year later? We had it in our minds that our Dad had little time left on this earth and last years trip was a “once in a lifetime” adventure. God is good and He has blessed us with another “once in a lifetime” adventure and I am so happy to be a part of it this year!

We’ve been counting down the days and they seemed so far away and yet so close it makes my stomach all fluttery just thinking about it! My Dad said just last night that if he had to leave in an hour, he’d be ready to go. I wish I had half of his organization skills and quarter of his diligence!! Of course, I keep telling myself he’s done this before, so he knows what he needed and what could stay home. It’s all about packing correctly, so I hear. We’ll see if I can even get all the clothes I want to take in my bag. Keep your fingers crossed, I’ll need all the help I can get! I want to bring a pillow, but I’m pretty sure I won’t have room for it. Oh well. Maybe I’ll just bring my favorite pillow case and use it on the hotel pillows.

I’m excited to be bringing one of our little netbooks with me. It’s small, compact, and easy to use (if your hands are the size of an elf). There is a small learning curve for me because the keyboard is so much smaller than my laptop. It’s like a baby version of mine and I make a lot of mistakes with the mouse pad. It is annoying and I get a little frustrated, but it’ll be good to use for skyping and uploading all the pictures I am going to take. Maybe I’ll be able to watch the latest episode of Glee on our 8 hour flight. I’ve been too busy to watch any TV, except for a movie with Michael last night, I’ve barely turned on the TV!

I’ll have to write a whole other post just for posterity sake about our adventure to the ER on Thursday. Michael seemed VERY sick and we were scared it was something serious. Family and friends on Facebook know the whole story, so I’ll save the details for another day. Let’s just say it was a doozy!

Update on my personal goal of losing 20 lbs. by June 1st. I didn’t meet the whole goal, just most of it. I have lost 17.6 lbs total! I’m 2.4 lbs. shy of my goal, but that is pretty dang good if I do say so myself!! I can’t wait to sit on the airplane, knowing I’m going to be more comfortable! I’ve already enjoyed the benefit of smaller clothes and more stamina. I even have better breath control with my singing! It’s all good! I have a long way to go to my ultimate goal, but I know with perseverance and sweat, I can get there.

Tomorrow we have church and our friends are getting married tomorrow afternoon, so I’m off to dreamland.

TTFN,

Taking Bets on whether or not she gets up today…

So I decided in the spirit of “keeping it real” I would confess to all the goings on or rather the not goings on of my life.

I like sleeping. Mostly during the day when its quiet and calm. Especially when the sun is behind the clouds and its kind of dreary and the light is not too bright in my window, you know, pretty much most of the winter? Yeah, well…like I said, I like to sleep. There I said it. One might say it’s the depression talking, or my lack of motivation, but really, I just like to nap in the morning. Some days it’s ALL  morning, some days, it’s broken up into several naps. All depends on what I’m trying to avoid doing that day. It’s subjective. It would seem I’m not the only one who digs naps. Check it out .

Anyway…I decided that today (sound the trumpet! doo-do DOOOO!) I will not in fact go back to sleep after all the kids leave for school and I WILL WILL be a productive member of society! Haha! Take that world!

I have this list you know…a mile long. Of things that I want to do so I can you know, do stuff. Stuff like host parties, and craft pretty things like aprons, and baby gifts, and Christmas presents. You know?! STUFF!

I know you are dying to see my list…ready?

  1. DONE Mail my Dad’s birthday present and card Yay me!! I did it, I mailed the first birthday card of the year on time (hopefully) and I actually thought about it NOT at the last minute like I have in years past. **See list to the right to see what my goals for the year are… #4 on the list is “Remember all birthdays and send cards”. ** So far so good!! Yay me!
  2. Clean up the kitchen. If you headed over to Sweetbippy Cooks you’ve seen the reality that is my kitchen. Forget trying to cook in it. And while you’re at it, forget that you seen what it looks like, m’kay? Thxbai.
  3. DONE Sweep the living room floor. We finally took our tree down yesterday, I fear half the needles on the fake tree are on the floor. I thought those things weren’t supposed to shed?
  4. DONE Put away all Christmas Decor Do I really need to elaborate? I didn’t think so.
  5. DONE Rearrange furniture for maximum American Idol Viewing Yes my list really does say that. After we put the TV on the mantle, we were left with many more seating options and I want to be sure that my 15+ guests are comfortable with the seating. That’s just the way I roll.
  6. Mop Bathroom Floor I got to cleaning it all up yesterday and wiped down all the surfaces except that floor. Eww. I think that one will get delegated to someone lower on the totem pole.
  7. Sweet Front Entry again and clear off table and bench. Pretty self explanatory even though someone already swept, you can always find more dirt, unfortunately!
  8. Vacuum Play Room Yesterday we cleared the floor and put stuff back where it belongs, (sort of) and all that’s left is vacuuming and cleaning up my craft stuff, but that’s a whole other beast to tackle!!
  9. DOING Keep plowing thru laundry I’ve heard it said by more than one of my friends with far fewer children than me, laundry is never ending for all people! Doesn’t matter if you have a family of 6 or 2, there is ALWAYS laundry to do. *cue* “this is the song that never ends….”
  10. Decorate for the next upcoming holiday “VALENTINES DAY’’! Yes, I know we just started a new year. Yes, I know we just put our Christmas tree away, but friend lemme tell you; there is already EASTER stuff out! I know! I found some cute mini glittered Easter eggs at the Dollar Tree! Squee!
  11. ALMOST DONE Make/ Get Snacks for American Idol Party We all contribute to the snack table at my gatherings. I provide staples like, drinks, popcorn, and some form of chocolate. Most weeks, we have chips and salsa and someone always brings veggies and hummus. So good! This week we’ll have popcorn, candy hearts both chocolate and conversation, and some sweet tea, decaf since it’ll be after 9pm when everyone arrives.

That’s pretty much my list in a nutshell. ** I edited what has been done, but you can look and see what all I had done when I posted this. Just thought you should know I wasn’t a complete slacker today. There, I feel better, don’t you? **

So what did I get done today?? Ready?

  1. I woke up, put a bra on and went to CVS. Came home and got online.
  2. Brushed my hair and wrapped Dad’s present and headed to post office.
  3. Called and stopped by my friend Laura’s house unannounced (I hate when people do that to me, but know where their heart was when they did it, like my heart was this morning. Concern and love) and visited for a bit.
  4. Drove over to Dollar Tree for some Valentines goodies (and Easter too!)
  5. Then drove home and made a sandwich. I talked myself out of going to get a sub from the new pizza place in town (that friends own) and spent $0 bucks at my own restaurant.
  6. Got online.
  7. Stayed online.
  8. Made some homemade microwave popcorn, See recipe here.
  9. Played on Facebook. Arrgh. That place is too fun! Dangit!
  10. Looked over at list and sighed.
  11. Drank a 3rd glass of water.
  12. Waited for the kids to get home from school.

Not so good eh? Oh well. Just keeping it real. LOL!!

I still have time to get my stuff done before 9pm 5pm tomorrow, right? Oh yeah… I work best under pressure.

My friends love me for me. Like Martha says, “It’s a good thing”.

I’m the treat, he’s the trick!

halloween 2009 crazy hair angie

Tonight was our annual Fall Festival at our church. I painted faces like I do every year. It’s just basic simple shapes, but the kids love it. I always try to dress up just to be fun, and well FUNNY.  One year I was a clown in full clown make-up and a rainbow wig with a pink feather boa neck on my polka dot clown costume, complete with shoes. A lot of children were scared to sit down and have me paint their faces, some even ran away crying. That was the last year I was a clown. One year I was a “rock chick”, another year I was a housewife in curlers and a green face mask painted all over my face. I even wore a housecoat and slippers. That was fun and comfy too!

Like I said, I enjoy dressing up. This year I tried to go subtle. NOT! I put on gobs of makeup and bright lipstick and teased my hair and spray painted it pink and purple. The picture above is kind of dark, and it’s after I took it down.

Here is what it looked like before:

This was yesterday’s “hair” raising adventure, thanks to a wig and some fun hair accessories! I wore this ensemble to the company Trick or Treat that NICE held in the offices. It was missing the famous haunted house, but the boys got a bag full of candy, so there’s that AND I had an excuse to drive around town all dressed up. Funny thing was, no one even batted an eyelash at me. I guess pink and black hair isn’t that shocking these days.

All and all, this Halloween was very stress free. Brenna went to a sleepover/party, Lauren and Dan were a part of the Fall Festival “Bible Maze” and that left MJ with both of our attention and freedom to roam and run and play all he wanted tonight. It was not too long ago that poor Jon was carrying around babies and toddlers while chasing two little girls all over the place while Mommy the Clown was painting faces. Good times…  Jon was pelted in the face all night with wet sponges at the Goliath Booth. I got one good smack in while I was there. MJ went as a Fire Fighter and when Jon wasn’t playing Goliath, he was impersonating Hugo “Hurley” Reyes from LOST. Uncanny isn’t it? Only thing he was missing was his DharmlaLars and his big jar of Dharma Mayonnaise. So much fun!! I love it!

I hope your Halloween was safe and fun! Next year I want our whole family to dress up as a group of something, if I can talk the kids into it. I shouldn’t hold my breath. I also would like to go trick or treating around our neighborhood as well, since we haven’t done that in 10 years. How old is too old to Trick or Treat??

Stay-cations are the new black

This is a sampling of what we are planning to do while we are on our “stay-cation” this next week. Jon is taking a few days off and we are going to make the most of a five day weekend. Starting Saturday we are going to hit up a swim party, go bowling, get wet at the water park, see the fishes, jaguar, and stinky flamingos, and squeeze in a baseball game at the end of the week. Then it’s packing time and a two part drive to Missouri with the boys next Sunday. 5 or 6 days with my Dad and Sister and then back to Plano. I have to try and accomplish those little craft projects I was hinting at before. I may run out to the hardware store and marvel over the spray paint cans and choose who will go home with me and make me happy!

Happy Summer y’all!!

This is right up my alley!!

I was running around the internet this morning when I happened upon a Goodwill party over at Thrifty Decor Chick. I have never done a carnival before, so I am not sure I am doing this right, but I’ll give it the ‘ol college try!

Those of you who know me well, know I love to shop. I am an equal opportunity shopper. I love big box store, little shops, flea markets, second hand shops, and antique stores! Today I want to share with you what I think is the best bargain I have ever found at a second hand store and the story behind it.

I was feeling inspired by all the dollar store decor ideas I was reading on the web. Sometimes when you get inspired, you just have to get up and go do something about it that very minute. Such was the case about a month ago when after reading about Dollar Store birds, I made a “wish” list of things I wanted to find either at the Dollar Store or thrift stores and headed out in search of cheap treasure! I didn’t have any luck at our local Dollar Tree where I like to do a “little” shopping here and there ( you know I am totally lying right?) so I headed over to a local Thrift Shop that happened to be the very same place I found two crystal lamps for $2.48 each that have graced my nightstands for about 7 years.

While I was walking around looking for any kind of single bird to spray paint and add to my home decor, I spied a lovely blue wing back chair. I walked back and forth trying to get a good look at it. My only obstacle was not the price or condition, but a woman sitting in it talking on her cell phone! I didn’t want to be rude and ask her to “move it lady, I want to look at that chair!”, so I tried to act casual. You know, glancing back and forth, lingering around it to get a feel for the best time to approach said bargain. Instead I probably looked like I was stalking her. Creepy image I know.

During one pass by, I noticed the price tag on the chair. It said, “1818”.  I wasn’t sure what that meant, but after using logic and questioning one of the workers there, she confirmed my suspicion that indeed the chair was $18.18!  I felt a flood of adrenalin.  I’m sure I’m not the only shopper who gets that heart thumping feeling when she comes upon a truly awesome deal? I got brave and asked the lady if she was buying the chair. She said she wasn’t and got up so I could look at it. I didn’t need to pour over it to know that it was in excellent condition with no stains or rips. It was a solid chair with no issues. So what did I do?

I bought it of course!! I immediately said, “I’LL TAKE IT”  and started pushing it down the aisle toward the register. I knew it was time to high tail it out of there before someone figures out what a find I had!

I paid for it and carried it out to the parking lot. I opened the car door and wham! I couldn’t get it in my car. I suspected I might have a teensy problem with getting it to fit. I was determined though to shove that sucker in there if it was the last thing I did!

No success except for a little bead of sweat on my brow.

A mini-van pulled up behind my car. A lady rolled her window down and offered to help me. She offered to take my chair home for me! A stranger. Someone who I had never seen before in my life. An angel!  I was taken aback.  I didn’t know what to think. She explained that she was on her way home and saw me struggling to get the chair in my car. She said, “I just wanted to do something nice for you and I hope someday when I am trying to shove a chair in my car, a stranger will offer to help me out too!”
She  hoped I would accept her offer. I hesitated at first and offered to call my husband with our mini-van to come and rescue me. She promised she wasn’t a weirdo who steals chairs from women in thrift store parking lots and gave me her name and cell phone number. I kind of had no choice but to call Jon and wait for him after he picked the boys up from school, so I accepted her help.  I did tell her that if she tried to make off with my chair, she wouldn’t get very far with it because I have the cushion. Teehee.

She made it to my house minutes after I did and carried to to the curb for me. I was super appreciative for the kindness of strangers and their willingness to enable my thifting habit. It was a great shopping day! Yay for the kindness of strangers!

So…after all that, do you still want to see the chair??!! If I were you, I would be thinking by this point in the long winded story, it should be gold encrusted and studded with jewels. Nope, just a blue 18 dollar wing back.

But it’s mine!

wingback-chair

And that’s my Goodwill Party contribution! I have more…you know I do! But I will have to take pictures. Until then, Happy “Goodwill” hunting! *snort*

Welcome to the House of Horrors….

Happy Halloween ghosts and goblins!

I’m not normally the Halloweenie type that really gets into the decorations and such, but this year I found some really cute stuff at my favorite place, the Dollar Tree. Cute plates and serving bowls. Skeletons and Frankensteins, so fun! One wouldn’t think those things fall into the cute category, but these do! They have candy corn that ring the rim of the plate and are black and white. I mean, come on, you can’t go wrong for a buck! I plan on picking up some more plates for next year, one can never have too many ghoulish plates and cups!

So I was looking through a magazine last week and I was inspired to make the kids a Halloween dinner and then carve our pumpkin afterward. Like I said, I don’t normally go all out for them except I gather and purchase their costumes every year. This year I decided it would be fun for us all to have a haunted Halloween feast!

Here is what I picked up at the dollar store:

  • a purple table cloth
  • 6 spooky plates
  • 2 spooky serving bowls
  • clear plastic short stemmed glasses
  • black plastic utensils

I asked the boys what they would like to eat for dinner; either Boo Burgers and Frankentots or Spooky Spaghetti and Monster Meatballs. Spooky monster won them over. Spaghetti is one of their favorite meals.
I would love to show you how the bloody finger breadsticks turned out, or the oozy alfredo sauce looked, or even the spooky spaghetti and pumpkin juice turned out, but my blog is telling me that those files are too big. Not sure how to make them smaller, but trust me, they were awesome!

Ok, well……I figured it out.
How fun is that??? I drew faces on the cups and made “Pumpkin Juice” out of orange juice, orange pineapple, and sprite. I added a few drops of red and yellow food color to darken it up and the kids loved it! I tinted the alfredo with black food color paste and even though it tasted as good as it always does, the color threw everyone off and dare I say even gave Jon a bit of a stomach ache! LOL!! I love it! The meatballs were a hit as well. Dan loved calling them monster meatball brains and at the end of the night, all but three were gone! The breadsticks with almond sliver nails and bloody marks…tasty!! Brenna joked around and said, “Yummm, I always knew chewing on my nails tasted good!”

All in all, it was a fun night and I enjoyed making a spooky, not so scary dinner for my family. I think next year will be even more frightening…we might actually carve a pumpkin!! Muuuuaahahahahaha!!

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery…

My Sister (visit her here) did this really cool mosaic. I thought I would create my own Here Am I meme just like she did. She makes it look so easy! Let me tell you how long I have been working on this stinkin’ meme! Oh, no long at all…only 7 hours!! It’s really hard to find all the things on the list that start with the first letter in your name. To make it visually even, I added my own name graphic. I’m sort of anal that way. Ha! Another A word. You get that one for free!

So, here it is. This is what you are supposed to do. Take the list below and come up with examples of things that start with the first letter in your name. You can do like we did and make a mosaic here or just write out the list, either way; it’s fun!! Come on….you can do it!!

Today is a new day…

I feel better today than I did yesterday, so that’s something to be happy about. My wise husband made me take some Advil and after a yummy dinner of egg sandwiches and biscuits and gravy, I felt a whole lot better. I guess I should listen to my husband more often. Shhh..don’t tell him that though!

Tonight is Ladies Night Out. We aren’t meeting for dinner at a restaurant like we normally do. Instead we are going to meet at a local church for a “Cents-sible Celebrations” and dinner. This speaker will show us ways to get ready for the holidays without spending too much money or time. The tag line was “Get us thinking INSIDE the box for the Holidays”.  I’m looking forward to seeing what ideas she throws out because I tend to do the opposite during the holidays by thinking outside the box as far as menu’s and decorations, all at the expense of my sanity and bank account. I have a lot of neat stuff tucked away, I hope they come up with creative ways to use what we might already have in our homes for the upcoming holidays.
Speaking of holidays. I vow to put up my Fall decorations this year and not let another year go by with those pretty decorations sitting in my closet collecting dust. It’s my promise to myself to pull out the things that make me smile and bring out those warm touches that usher in Fall and make me feel cozy inside.
Tomorrow is supposed to be cooler…70 degrees! Can you believe it?? Here in Texas, we get so excited when the temperature falls below 75! That means Fall is here and soon after Winter!! And no more mosquitoes and sweaters and hot chocolate (like this one! OMG I’m in love!!) and fuzzy warm socks!! Can you tell I love Fall?? In fact, I think I’ll go put my Fall door bucket up right now!!

I might even post a picture or two after I’m done! Stay tuned…

**edited**

Here are some pictures of what I did on the front porch. I didn’t take a full shot because I have to find a place for all the crap the kids leave at the step, so I didn’t want to show you that part. Isn’t it pretty??

Happy Fall Y’all!!
